What is 13 asos?

The 13th Air Support Operations Squadron (13 ASOS) is a United States Air Force unit that provides tactical command and control of airpower assets in support of ground forces. The squadron is part of the 3rd Air Support Operations Group of the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing, based at Fort Carson, Colorado.

The primary mission of the 13 ASOS is to provide accurate and timely information to ground commanders, so they can make informed decisions about the use of airpower. The squadron is made up of Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) members who are trained to embed with Army, Marine Corps, and other ground forces. They are responsible for integrating and coordinating close air support, combat air patrol, and other air assets as needed.

The 13 ASOS is equipped with various communication and targeting systems, including Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) radios, laser range finders, and night vision devices. These tools allow the TACP to communicate directly with pilots and coordinate precise strikes that minimize the risk of collateral damage.

Some of the missions the squadron has supported include Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Inherent Resolve, and Operation Freedom's Sentinel. Additionally, the 13 ASOS provides training for joint terminal attack controllers and other military personnel.
